The fun bit:

We're the UK's largest Celebration of Diverse Stories and Underrepresented Filmmakers. Join us or submit to our 5th celebratory edition.

The next BIFA Qualifying Sunrise Film Festival takes place from 20 to 23 August 2026 in Lowestoft, Suffolk.

Our 5th edition sees us accepting submissions for new categories, from music videos to Virtual Reality (VR) projects.

The serious bit:

Sunrise Film Festival, based in Lowestoft, Suffolk, UK, was founded in 2021 and is run voluntarily by passionate independent film enthusiasts and filmmakers to provide an important accessible platform for filmmakers like themselves every August.

We're passionate about creating a platform for filmmakers who are yet to be discovered (or picked up by the bigger film festival circuit), whilst making film accessible and proudly showcasing independent film to new audiences across overlooked communities.

Since 2021, we have screened just over 600 independent films as part of our official selection to our live audiences and have presented 65 awards at our festival award ceremonies since inception.

We're also a BFI Film Audience Network-backed film festival and a BIFA (British Independent Film Awards) qualifying festival for British Short Films (Section B*).

Why Sunrise Film Festival?

As Suffolk's biggest film festival, we're passionate about creating an inclusive platform for filmmakers here in East Anglia.

We've proudly been the bright and colourful film festival since 2021, loved by filmmakers for the friendly grassroots feel. We're a small team, but our festival pacts impact, showcasing film in one of the most deprived communities in England, and we've awarded as well as showcased some impactful stories along the way.

We value and proudly promote films from any filmmaker, creative, or producer to the general public, including receiving submissions from first-time filmmakers, female/non-binary filmmakers, neurodiverse filmmakers, stories from the LGBTQIA+ community, people with lived experience, as well as films focusing on social and environmental issues.

If you need help with entering your short film into Sunrise Film Festival via Festhome, have questions about submitting, or need support with a waiver code (subject to eligibility), you can email us at info@sunrisefilmfestival.co.uk or DM us on Instagram @sunrisefilmfest.

Internacionalen Etnografski Filmski Festival `ilindenski Denovi´-bitola

BITOLA, North Macedonia

“From the roots to the flower” is this year's slogan of the first edition festival Ilinden Days. We started the creation of our film program from the roots of the Bitola's film tradition, the one of the Manaki brothers – the first cinematographers in Macedonia and in the Balkan, who left us invaluable testimonies of the everyday life and the great events of their time, engraved on the film tape. They actually made the first ethnographic documentaries.

It was natural that the Festival Ilinden Days, which has risen to international level, to include in its rich program a festival of ethnographic films. Then the creation of new customs and beliefs. All covered by the artistic passion of the artists, who follow the need to leave indelible traces with their cameras.

In addition to the high cinematographic quality of the films, during the selection we were guided by their capacity to convey important messages, which justifies their selection. We hope that our program will succeed to attract and surprise the festival's audience, because these are strong films, which can surprise us, disturb us, soften us, make us happy, provoke us to think, change our view, oppose us, therefore after each screening we will be able to exchange opinions about each of the films.

In 1971 in Macedonia a great idea was born, a wish of a group of professionals, enthusiasts, dreamers, visionaries, an idea which became reality. A springhead, a glowing heart of a cultural organism has been created. A heart which beats, motivates, initiates, boosts, educates.

In 1971 in Bitola was established the International Festival for folk songs and dances “Iliindenski denovi” in Bitola. The name of the Festival is symbolical, its mission is generous while its goals and criteria are deeply integrated and conceived. This festival is dedicated to most hardworking people and their creations which endured the criteria of value through time. This is e Festival which presents, promotes and documents the deed of priceless folk cultural tradition. Thousands of folk artists, millions of visitors, numerous photos, audio, video documents, telegraphed materials, documents for the next generations. On all four parts of the world, the Festival realized its mission, sent messages, thus attracting a great number of authentic values of the cultural heritage fans.

Nevertheless, after all these years the beginning is here, since the new generations should also learn about and as well dance “Teskoto”, “Kopacka”, “Nevestinsko”, Komitsko”…
Every generation implements its own rock in the priceless mosaic of the Festival, a monument, a textbook…

This text is just sparkle from the great fire, a small stone in the mosaic. It has been written with lots of love, respect, and a wish for this Festival to continue.

The second edition of Decolonizing Frames is finally here!

Decolonizing Frames aims to unravel narratives beyond the confines of North-American and European perspectives, celebrating wordly knowledge and identities.

Nowadays we are living the consequences of colonialism in all its aspects: racism, patriarchy, cultural, economical and political capitalism and hegemony. Decolonizing Frames seeks to address and dismantle these legacies by shedding light on alternative narratives. Through short films, we aim to disrupt the status quo, encouraging a reevaluation of societal norms and fostering appreciation for diverse knowledge systems and ways of life.

Through the powerful medium of short films, we encourage producers to showcase the richness of cultures, native languages and ways of living, contributing to a collective understanding of decolonial perspectives.

Decolonizing Frames seeks to be a catalyst for meaningful conversations, amplifying voices and narratives that have been historically overlooked. We invite filmmakers to be part of this transformative journey, submitting works that contribute to the discourse on decoloniality.

The 2nd edition of Decolonizing Frames will be held in 2026 in Turin (Italy).

gender, queerness, and the colonial matrix of power
language, memory, and ancestral knowledge
environmental destruction and extractivism in the Global South
ody, identity, and visibility in postcolonial and diasporic contexts

Welcome to the Radical Frame Film - 2026 Short Film Series - Berlin
We at the Radical Frame Film Festival are proud to announce edition number twelve of Short Film Series.

The idea for the Radical Frame Film Festival started years ago when a group of Denver activists, artists, and friends decided to bring the messages of video activist cinema into the public eye.

We feel that due to the current social and political climate, both locally and globally, our mission -- to provide a forum for thought provoking films and debates -- is more critical than ever.

We are committed to presenting progressive, leftist, radical, anti-racist, experimental, and visionary films that address issues including, but not limited to, the environment, human rights, social injustice, antiglobalization, etc...

The Radical Frame Film Festival showcases every genre of independent film from across the world during this incredible bi-continental celebration of independent artists.

The Radical Frame Film Festival is a forum where filmmakers can thrive outside the mainstream arena.

The Short Film Series turns the spotlight on truly independent short films, created by new and established filmmakers. The purpose is to allow anyone regardless of country, to step to their dreams and start taking the steps to live life with passion and purpose.

Out of Bounds. Festival di cinema e formazione

Molfetta , Italy

Puglia, southern Italy.

In 1945 the American army landed in southern Italy for the "liberation" campaign and suddenly passed through Molfetta, our base city. During their stay the allies reported some neighborhoods as "OUT OF LIMITS" due to the "social danger" of the people who lived there. In the first two editions, 2013 and 2014, our festival took place in two squares, Piazza San Michele and Piazza delle Erbe, near the areas still considered by many to be "out of bounds", in Molfetta.

The “Out Of Bounds” film event is run by filmmakers and focuses on empowering the best independent artists and encouraging all aspects of independent film production. We seek the unconventional, the unusual, the underground, the intuitive, the innovative and the true.

Subsequent editions took place in the cloister of the church of San Domenico, in the port area of the town and in the ancient arena of the castle of Barletta, an evocative and historic medieval place and at the Artists' Citadel of Molfetta.

The special sections chosen for this edition are "Short on sport as a tool for dialogue and peace" and “Shorts on gender equality, even those directed by a male director" (INTERNATIONAL AND NATIONAL).
There is no submission fee for short films from Iran, Palestine, Ukraine or a State in a critical political situation.

WITA, Wildcat International Talent Award, is an international online film festival dedicated to Independent cinema, based in Rome, Italy.
Our mission is to recognize, enhance and give visibility to the true talents of independent cinema that, like the Wildcat, a wonderful protected species in danger of extinction, risk not being rightly appreciated in the international independent scene and therefore not being considered.

Our goal is to reward all the artistic figures who contribute to the making of a film: directors, screenwriters, actresses and actors, authors of photography, music, editing and scenography, because only thanks to the work of everyone can a good film be made. In special cases, the award reserves the possibility of awarding further recognition.

The jury is composed of experts in the sector and the works will be evaluated based on criteria such as originality, technical quality, experimentation and artistic value.

On an annual basis, the Festival selects the finalists of each category by promoting the trailers of their works and related video interviews on all social channels and on the festival website. The winners will be announced within 60 days of the official announcement of all the finalists. The times and methods of awarding will be communicated on the festival channels and via email to participants.
