Thank you for considering our festival for your film!

We are looking for the best features, shorts, docs and animation we can find to present in San Francisco. For 26 years SF IndieFest has developed a great reputation for eclectic, adventurous programming, getting great press for our films and filling theaters with enthusiastic film fans. Dozens of festivals and distributors have requested and received industry accreditation to view SF IndieFest titles at our festivals over the years.

Top 50 Film Festivals Worth The Entry Fee
25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World

“I’m certainly happy that IndieFest exists, because it is a celebration of films that don’t necessarily get distributed widely,” HITS director David Cross says, “I’m happy to be a part of it with my film, which is very much in the category of a low-budget, little indie movie. I’m glad there’s a place for it.” – SF Chronicle

“Sundance may have sold out, but SF IndieFest keeps it real” – Annie Lo, Flavorpill

“While the Bay Area is flush with festivals, this one remains an under-the-radar standout.” – Randy Myers, San Jose Mercury News

“The San Francisco Independent Film Festival, the Bay Area’s version of Slamdance, provides a showcase for edgy cinematic work — and a great excuse to do some serious partying.” – David Lewis, San Francisco Chronicle

"The movie business is in a perennial state of constant tension between ambition and collaboration, joyful inventiveness and jaw-dropping paydays. This roiling undercurrent, usually invisible to the public, gushes to the surface in the run-up to the Academy Awards ceremony. There is an antidote, however, to Hollywood’s annual backslapathon: SF IndieFest. The San Francisco Independent Film Festival is a beacon to anybody excited by the basic impulse of making movies. In its heart of hearts, IndieFest is a celebration of the minor miracle of finishing a film and getting it up on a screen in front of a live audience." - Michael Fox, KQED

“For many independent filmmakers, festivals such as SF Indiefest—aka the San Francisco Independent Film Festival–are the only way to bring their works before an audience. For filmgoers, SF Indiefest is the place to see original cinematic works created by directors who want to tell edgy stories which come from their hearts and souls. While some have bemoaned the death of cinema, the curators and filmmakers at SF Indiefest are keeping the craft of film alive.” – David Elijah Nahmod, SF SOUNDS

“SF IndieFest is the one festival of the year where you should throw a dart at the program and take a chance. Not because you’re guaranteed a masterpiece, but because it’s the best fest to see something that would never, ever breach your filter otherwise.” -Michael Fox, KQED

FILMMAKER COMMENTS ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

"Hey Jeff: Just want to shoot you a quick note of thanks on hosting us at IndieFest and giving us our World Premiere. We had a great time and really enjoyed our time at the fest and in SF; it's a great vibe and the diversity of features and shorts in the program made for a really exciting and energized atmosphere. "- Max Gardner, Go/Don't Go

"Festivals bring unexpected benefits. Festivals are essential for brand creation. Premiering at Tribeca was enough to convince people to at least listen to me, but surprisingly it was the San Francisco Indie Fest that was just as crucial for our theatrical release. Our press from this festival helped convince the Red Vic to book us in April (I thank the amazing S.F. publicist Karen Larsen for convincing me of this in advance). We also incorporated festivals into our broader theatrical release, and while we did not claim them as cities in our 17-city count, they helped give us something to crow about."

http://www.filmmakermagazine.com/fall2008/bomb_it.php

"I've got to tell you that Indiefest was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I tell all filmmakers - and festival organizer friends of mine - how you run your fest and how you run each film twice. Every single time people look at me with shocked disbelief. Truly, Bonnie and I loved being a part of the event.
Thanks again for including us. SF Indiefest really made me feel that making YEAR was worth the whole effort.
Best-MIKE CARROLL"

"We LOVED San Francisco, meeting other filmmakers, seeing their films, participating in your screenplay panel and of course our awesome sold-out screening. You have one of the most engaged, passionate cinephile audiences I’ve ever seen at a film fest — they were incredible." - Warren Sonoda, THINGS I DO FOR MONEY, IndieFest 2020

"You have a great and engaging festival and one that draws on extremely passionate indie film audiences you are rabid for amazing content for which you definitely provide in bunches! You support of us and our film is greatly appreciated and we hope we are privileged To be welcomed back again in the future!" - Avi F.

"Thanks for these amazing photos (kudos on composition, lighting, and hyping up the crowd - what a great gift to filmmakers!). A million thanks to you both for pulling off an amazing event. We love the ethos of SF IndieFest and we're so honored to have participated. Thanks for your dedication to uplifting local filmmakers and for putting our all-female team (and our unexpected and important story) in the spotlight. Looking forward to seeing and working with you both again in the future!!" - Leslie Tai, How To Have An American Baby

"Thank you for a wonderful experience. The festival was a blast, the people so kind, the films inspiring, and great vibes all around. I'll be back to catch more films in the coming days." - Kerry Muir, Madame

"Thank you so much for having us and all that you and SF IndieFest do to champion independent film." - Anna Moot-Levin, Matter of Mind

"Thank you all for such a fun festival! You all really did a wonderful job all around and we were honored and grateful to be a part of it!" - Liz McBee, Finding Lucinda

Short films

We are an annual independent short film festival based in Brussels, Belgium, from January 20 to 24, 2021. Every year, we select over 100 short films and invite more than 40 filmmakers from all around the world.

The festival has been running for 16 years now with increasing success. We screen mainly independent films, not specially trashy movies. we love originality and creativity. Cheapness and Beauty !

The idea for Courts Mais Trash originated from a lack of a proper platform for independent short films to be screened.

Films that fail to meet conservative cinematographic standards are mostly snubbed by festival programmers and legitimate audio-visual venues. Trash is often just perceived in the provocative sense of the word; shocking and equally alternative, political, cheap and offbeat… .

Every category of film will be projected, from experimental to animation, through video clips and documentaries. No genre is left unexploited. The shorts don’t have to be ‘trash’ per se, but we do encourage work that is ‘out there’, on the cusp of the cutting edge and stimulating to the spectators interests. To avoid any possible confusion: the screenings are adults only.

Do you wish to participate in the biggest blowout alternative, underground and independent cinema has to offer, then act now! What are you waiting for?

GRRL HAUS CINEMA

GRRL HAUS CINEMA is an ongoing program of short films and video art made by women, non-binary, genderqueer, and trans people. A mix of local, national, and international artists present work from a variety of disciplines: narrative, documentary, experimental, and conceptual. With an emphasis on low budget and DIY, GRRL HAUS is a space for underrepresented voices in the arts today.

For 2021 our main screenings will be held in July at two outdoor film events taking place in Berlin Germany.

In addition all submissions will also be considered for our monthly curated online screenings, which includes interviews with the filmmakers.

If we have permission (due to pandemic) to make more live events throughout the year - we will! And we hope to continue our end of the year event at the Brattle Theatre in Cambridge, MA.

GRRL HAUS is not your typical film festival, instead of having one big event - we have multiple events throughout the year. Our goal is to show as many quality short films made by women, non-binary, genderqueer, and trans people to an international audience.

We completely celebrate DIY culture and focus on sharing works to all different types of audiences. This can include audiences at international museums or to audiences at underground clubs. We believe that every audience deserves the chance to see these works, rather than just the typical film festival networking crowd. We want to reach all audiences and celebrate the inclusivity of creative and unique work in film.

OUR HISTORY:
GRRL HAUS started in 2014 at the Brattle Theatre in Cambridge, MA, USA. Since then the event has showcased over 400 filmmakers, including multiple musical performances, video art installations, exhibitions and local vendors. In 2016 GRRL HAUS relocated to Berlin Germany and started hosting small screenings of local films. As we established are identity in Berlin we began to include music and arts.

Within the past few years we have grown to not just showcase films, but also art, music, dance, photography, handmade crafts and clothing, and even tarot, astrology and spiritual meet ups. The idea of GRRL HAUS is constantly expanding. We believe in no boundaries for creativity and are constantly looking for new ways to celebrate the work of underrepresented people.

For our complete history of screenings, events, exhibitions, concerts and parties - you can view all our teasers and selected artists on our Media page : https://www.grrlhauscinema.com/media.html

OUR PROJECTS:
International Screenings:
Our international screenings are curated from our over 400 yearly submissions. Through these submissions we select our favorite short films. This includes our end of the year festival screening at the Brattle Theatre and museum screenings at the prestigious Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston.

Mobile Kino Screenings:
We hold 3-4 screenings through Mobile Kino Berlin a year. These screenings we curate around the best of our local short film submissions and a selection of international short films. We invite the filmmakers to Q&A’s following the screenings, where they discus their works.

Loophole Monthly Screenings:
Once a month GRRL HAUS hosts screenings at Loophole Berlin. These events focus on sharing local films by local filmmakers. All of these screenings are free to enter and enjoy. We believe it’s important to keep some events free for the public.
These events build up our sense of local community and follows through with one of our founding principles : sharing our excitement and love for low budget, DIY events and making them accessible to everyone.

Online Screenings / Gimme 5:
At GRRL HAUS CINEMA we were forced to cancel all our events during this Corona season, and every artist on our program list was left without a show venue. Energized and in defiance of the virus, we wanted now more than ever to keep going. We want the artists to keep going. We want to encourage them to stay active, to create, and most importantly to show their work. We want to reverse the status quo of art being left behind in times of crisis when it is needed most.

For past year (and into the future) we have been running online screenings, which we have been curating and presenting live on our online platform. We have been hosting these themed screenings on our website and Vimeo, as well as promoting all the films on our social media platforms. We host 10-15 short films on our site for a week. And then we remove them and continue hosting other themed sets.

Through these screenings our audiences are able to watch amazing short films in the comfort and safety of their home. All of the online screenings are free to watch, so they are accessible to anyone in these uncertain times.

The Wayuu Film and Video Show was born in 2008 as an initiative of young filmmakers worried about not having spaces for dissemination and exhibition of their work in La Guajira. Alliances are quickly made between the Wayuu Women's Force Organization and the Jain Wain’juin Audiovisual Foundation (Venezuela). The young filmmakers David Hernández Palmar, Miguel Iván Ramírez and Leiqui Uriana, with great interest and enthusiasm, show their first cycle of Wayuu cinema on the improvised screens of a wall of the town of Uribia, beginning the Wayuu Culture Festival First cycle of the Wayuu Film and Video Exhibition. Thus, this space was born to promote an exchange where communities, spectators and the general public could contribute critically to the achievements, as well as helping to recognize in us as Wayuu the possibility of telling our own stories.

IntimaLente Festival is intended to promote documentary cinema with particular attention to anthropological topics and methodologies. The international character of the festival is both desirable and unavoidable because of the specific character of the discipline and of the medium of film itself. In this inaugural round, we have chosen not to focus on specialist themes but instead to offer an array of work representing different filmic idioms and geographical areas of interest. The aim is to offer both professional and non-professional viewers a broad (if necessarily incomplete) spectrum of possibilities. We believe that this choice not only will trigger a wide exchange of ideas and themes but will also generate an extensive collaborative perspective. We have made it a core principle to select topics of general interest exhibiting both thematic diversity and relevance to the interests of non-specialist viewers. We have rejected mere exoticism as outdated and unnecessary and have aimed at a selection that, via the intimacy of the camera’s lens, extends the local and the particular to a perspective that is truly contemporary and global.

El Grito is the first and only fantasy and horror film festival in Venezuela.

We are a space that promotes reflection, meeting and training through fantasy and horror films, serving as a platform for their dissemination and promotion as genres that go beyond entertainment, highlighting its poetic value and its own tools to move from different narratives, techniques and themes. Under the initiative of the El Grito Casa Audiovisual (www.elgritoproduce.com), this meeting was born in December 2019 in the city of San Cristobal, Tachira State.

We look for works that transcend narrative, aesthetic and technical languages within the genre, using history as the main element in his audiovisual proposal, demonstrating as an author, a search for new ways of showing situations, conflicts and twists of the screw hand in hand with references from different disciplines that feed its concept.

EL GRITO seeks to raise its voice until it becomes a thunderous noise that shakes our city and summons for years all kinds of nightmares and monsters that can strengthen our worn out humanity sensibility.
