Wandering Reel Traveling Film Festival

Northridge, United States

Wandering Reel is a traveling short film festival with a focus on bringing meaningful films to communities with limited or no access to compassionate, thought-provoking cinema. We strive to engage our audiences in deeper conversation about the role of cinema, and how films can relate to community, conscious living, and contribute to making the world a stronger and more unified place.

Artists have long been at the forefront of social innovation. The Wandering Reel believes in the power of film art to effect positive change, to bring people together through shared cultural experiences and to inspire conversation and collaboration between individuals and communities through the common experience of cinema. By exposing underserved communities with films that are artful in their meaning and compassionate and conscious in their approach, the boundaries that divide people can be slowly stripped away, cultures can be enriched and peace grown across the globe.

We serve anyone with a hunger for inventive, resonant cinema. We curate our films to communities that want to participate in a deeper dialogue about the power of film to effect positive change. In addition to theaters, we screen at schools, community centers, libraries, churches, museums, galleries, retirement homes, prisons, cafes, breweries, and anywhere an audience can comfortably gather to watch and discuss movies.

Fall 2017/Winter 2018 Tours
Our touring schedule begins in October of each year and continues through the spring of the following year, criss-crossing the United States and sometimes popping up in venues all over the world. Our first two seasons saw our films screen dozens of venues from southern California to British Columbia, and Colorado to Vermont. This fall and next winter/spring we'll return to many of these locations and do our best to expand our reach to different parts of the United States and even around the world.

Questions should be directed to info@wanderingreel.org.

Catskill International Film Festival

Middletown, United States

Catskill International Film Festival (CIFF) is honored and thrilled to be back and celebrating in-person while retaining its digital aspects for a hybrid approach that provides flexibility and convenience for all artists and attendees.

This year's Festival will launch at the famous, 97-year-old Paramount Theatre in Middletown, NY. This newly renovated 1,100 seat theater has hosted many wonderful events and we are thrilled to be part of its history! To give more of what fans love we have added additional award categories and are hosting a 72-hour film competition in which filmmakers will be competing closing night for the entire world to view and decide on a winner.

Our History:

The Catskill International Film Festival is passionate about promoting quality independent films, television pilots, and screenplays from filmmakers around the world. CIFF is a star-studded affair that celebrates an interactive and contemporary experience which will inspire, challenge, and enlighten viewers and participants alike. Attendees will walk the red carpet, attend after-parties with live entertainment, view award-winning independent films, enjoy a variety of events such as film seminars, and meet with filmmakers, stars, and models during an unforgettable event.

CIFF's first impression and soft opening in July 2018 showcased both local and international projects at SUNY Sullivan, complete with an art exhibit, live music, and charitable donations to the college to help those in need.

As the event evolved, the Callicoon Theater and Western Hotel in Callicoon, NY began a new chapter for the area and arts community by housing the Catskill International Film Festival in 2018. Nestled in the world-renowned Catskill Mountains and within driving distance of New York City, the Callicoon Theater is the perfect film venue. CIFF showcased some of the best talent from around the world, these amazing artists were given a platform to gain exposure and the promotion they rightfully deserved while celebrating the arts together and having an incredible time. Attendees experienced breath-taking films followed by an awards gala, live music, a parade, comedy show, various workshops, interactive Q&A sessions, and even live auditions for a feature film.

During Covid-19, our goal was to have a safe, interactive, and fun experience for everyone involved so we were proud to introduce an online format to the Catskill International Film Festival! These digital experiences so many of us enjoyed in 2020 and 2021 were proof that COVID-19 had not destroyed our enthusiasm or love of the arts. Creative artists used the challenging time to brainstorm, plan, and execute their newest masterpieces in new and unique ways by adapting to life during the pandemic. Over the course of two seasons, attendees enjoyed entertaining Q&A's with casts and crews, online games, and even polls where audiences selected winners for multiple categories.

After many months of lockdown, while still following safe distancing and mask guidance, attendees from around the world attended a limited event by CIFF at the Hurleyville Performing Arts Center in the fall of 2021.

2023 will be our biggest year yet and we hope to see you there!

PRESENTATION

The TUWUN concept represents the Mapuche territorial origin, which together with KVPALME, the family origin, represent the Mapuche identity rooted in the LOF, a territorial space that in turn is the basis of the ancestral territorial structure of a broader space, the WALLMAPU, the entire Mapuche territory.

This concept of Mapudungun, the Mapuche language, gives rise to TUWUN Muestra de Cine Indígena de Wallmapu, created with the aim of making known through cinema, that identity and the realities related from ancestral knowledge and the way in which it is understood. life from the vision and relationship of each people with their environment, with their territory, with their own history, culture and spirituality and, therefore, from their own perspective.

In this sense, we believe that the TUWUN exhibition represents a valuable opportunity to learn about the way in which life is understood from the indigenous peoples' own culture and an important space to share the perspective and reality expressed from their own representative voices, through of the cinema. In addition to contributing to the decentralization of cinema and culture, generating a process of circulation at the territorial level and taking the traveling exhibition and its complementary activities to a wide and diverse public, in urban and rural areas, with the exhibition of the participating works in various spaces, such as Mapuche communities, schools and cultural centers in towns that generally have difficulty accessing the cinema because they are far from large urban centers, also generating Nvtram (conversation) spaces around its contents.

COMPLEMENTARY ACTIVITIES

Within the framework of TUWUN, we develop various complementary activities, both during the central exhibition and during the traveling exhibition. Among them, a TRAWUN (meeting), special screenings by guests of indigenous peoples and the Mapuche people, NVTRAMCINE (cinema forums), TUWUN screenings inserted in other film and culture competitions, screenings for schools and communities, special cycles in the summer season . Chulpicine Film Festival for Children and Youth

Quito, Ecuador

Chulpicine began its work in 2002 with the first ever Itinerant Children & Youth Film Festival in Quito. The warm welcome that the project received allowed the festival to become an annual event during the months of July to September, bringing an educational and entertaining event at no cost, to sectors with few cultural activities.

Thanks to the positive reaction, Chulpicine became a cultural and educational non-profit foundation in June 2004. After more than 10 years of experience, Chulpicine have reach a stable proposal and working methodology that has spread at national level. The Festival has promoted the creation of coaching staff; cultural managers working in different communities; and a large group of followers.

Chulpicine has designed a set of activities and workshops for institutions, community organizations or outreach workers to educate and train in different areas related to cinema, audiovisual, communication and Internet used as social intervention tools. These activities and workshops have been the beginning of a formation of learning communities by harnessing the capabilities of young people, as well as the setting up of an active and engaged network of social facilitators through the film and audiovisual work.

The Foundation carries out the following program lines: training; intervention; appropriation of public spaces; diffusion and production. This line of work is an alternative to foster community networks to develop communication skills, analysis and reflection in the various stakeholders of the community, thereby strengthening its organizational and self-development skills.

The foundation has a multidisciplinary team currently working on the projects. These people are responsible for different areas: there is a psychologist, a producer, a programmer, a communicator and an accountant.

In addition, every year about 12 people are hired to assist in the implementation of activities. This group is made up of people who have worked in the past in the festival and some new young people that wish to join the group. Also, each year we have the support of volunteers from different organizations.

Short Movie Club Film Festival Nefiltravanae Kino

Vilnius, Lithuania

The purpose of the festival refers to awareness of both the external filters on the screen, including censorship (commercial, ideological, aesthetic), and the internal filters of screen perception and projection, including self-censorship. NEFILTRAVANAE KINO is an exploration of aestheticization and commodification in art. The next aim of the festival is to expose the complexity, manysidedness, and variety of filmmaking.

NEFILTRAVANAE KINO is a film festival that is held by the Short Movie Club, the platform for cinematic projects. NEFILTRAVANAE KINO is ADAMI Media Prize qualified festival. The International Film Studies Conference is held at the same time as the film festival. In this way, film theory and practice are integrated together at the NEFILTRAVANAE KINO.

Originally the festival was held in Belarus, but because of political repression and publicly stated anti-war stance, screenings and events can be held in different countries. First of all in Lithuania (Vilnius). For example, the 10th Nefiltravanae Kino took place in Berlin, Vilnius and Helsinki last year. There were selected 63 films for 12 film programmes. https://shortmovie.club/programmes/10-2024/

The concept of the NEFILTRAVANAE KINO (Unfiltered Cinema):

ALIENATION PROBLEM

We live in a world of malls and cinema multiplexes. We see that indie cinema and non-commodity art go to the periphery of public attention. Primitive attractions replace the cinematography. The escape audience is alienated behind the big screen. So modern mainstream cinema is part of a manipulating tool that leads to the society of alienation. Thus the tendency is that indie cinema becomes more unreadable for the wide audience. We should understand the context of the filmmaker to understand the independent cinema. That is why the NEFILTRAVANAE KINO concept implies the physical presence of filmmakers.

FILM SELECTION PROBLEM
Filmmakers shoot millions of movies. And thousands of short film festivals organize screenings all over the world every year. On average, several thousand films are submitted to a film festival. So various good films can be neglected for whatever reason. Often selecting probability is like winning a lottery. As a result, filmmakers are left with no feedback. It is a paradox that no one can hear you in the age of the Internet! The mainstream culture prefers attractions and casual viewing.

Also, this idea is based on the film selection problem. Perhaps it’s no surprise one person, i.e. programme director at best, or even students of film schools make a preliminary decision to select a movie. Сoncordance of judges or previewers is more seldom thing than the difference of background, tastes. So selection or judging can be one-sided or perfunctory. It is not bad as the programme director has a good taste and aesthetic sensitivity, of course. But we’ve discovered another conception of “unfiltered cinema”. We matched it against “the best of the best” way. This way aids to perceive cinematic idiom without the dictate of art-curators.

CELEBRATION OF INDIE CINEMA
So the Unfiltered Cinema Film Festival tries to avoid “the best of the best” way but it does not ignore it completely, sure. The festival selects fiction, animation, documentary, experimental and virtual reality sections. A jury awards the best film in every section. The festival holds the screenings at cinema theatres, the National Centre for Contemporary Arts, and art-spaces.

Our aim is to gather people in art, to have a dialogue to be happy with smart communication. Cinema is art but not sport. The key point of our project is to establish communication between the filmmaker and the audience.

Please, read about the festival history through the link to the festival's website. http://shortmovie.club/history/

Following the great success of the First and Second Edition of the Asylum Fantastic Fest, which in 2019 saw over 2,500 admissions, over 30 Italian and international guests, about 300 films sent for selection, and in 2020, over 70,000 contacts in streaming, the 'Department of Culture of Valmontone and the OutOut Art Workshop open the selections for the Third Edition.

Born from the idea of the Founder Claudio Miani, it is located in the heart of Lazio, in Valmontone, to become a reference point at national and international level for lovers of the genre, in a vision of long-term cultural project capable of bringing further emphasis , prestige and tourism to the entire territorial area.

An Art Festival as a "living cultural" project, where we do not just want to understand the culture in which we live, the actualization of the theme and the expressive form linked to the world of Horror and Fantastico, but with a wider range, all those experiences with their own roots and those evolutions developed by them, which in the positive sense of globalization interchange themselves in new cultural realities. It is therefore a question of interpreting a world by giving it a new form, perceiving its contents and aspirations in order to manifest them and communicate them through cinema, literature, music, performing arts, comics, animation and live contests. A research full of stimuli and hints, of new linguistic compositions and symbolic horizons, which are best expressed in a visual, narrative and structured diegesis, able to offer new genre perspectives.

The main purpose of the Asylum Fantastic Fest is to provide real visibility and support to the excellence of horror creativity, promoting realities and works that are able to provide new content readings and above all to confront the new 2.0 languages. The search for new trends and the opening up to currently non-standardized basins, allows us to guarantee the realization of a Festival capable of acting as a multi-year point of reference for a current that has always been looking for stimuli and developments. An event that wants to be an opportunity to stimulate collaboration between young Italian and international artists, offering moments of meeting and exchange for the sections present at the Festival.

Contamination is the word that contains sufficiently and clearly the importance that the Asylum Horror Fest reserves in this first edition and will reserve in those to come, the encounter between the different artistic forms. Working in a non-formal environment, where all the entities involved will be jointly responsible for the organization, it will be possible to reach the common goal of creating an expressive context where each of the participants can express their creative potential.

As a forum for sharing experiences, the ART&TUR Festival has achieved a high international recognition, thanks to the quality and quantity of films that it distinguishes annually, as well as its integration into a worldwide network of similar festivals: CIFFT (International Committee of Tourism Film Festivals) that annually elects the best tourism film worldwide, among all the films that travel the international circuit of 16 festivals.

From 2018, ART&TUR Film Festival rights were transferred from APTUR to Centro de Portugal Film Commission (CPFC). Associated to this change, and thanks to an agreement between the CPFC and the Regional Tourism Entity of Center of Portugal, the ART&TUR Festival will now be held in the Central Region, roaming through the various municipalities of the Center of Portugal.

There are 2 different competitions for you: TOURFILM & DOC
