"Cartones" tells the story of two very similar characters, but at the same time very different. One is Gabriel, a theater actor whose loss of his wife, a victim of cancer, causes him to enter a huge depression. Alcohol ends up condemning him to the street, where he meets "Chinche", the other character. "Chinche" was born an orphan and was educated in different institutions. Bad company makes him commit a crime to end up living on the street. Their stories joined together by the street and the cardboard with which they protect themselves from the cold. Their stories are told and they talk about the drama of the street. In the end, an unexpected event occurs that will give meaning to the whole story.
"Cartones" is made by theater people. The rhythm, the pauses, the silences are typical of the theater. Perhaps they are strange for a movie, but in this case they take on a special meaning. "Cartones" is a tribute to the people of the streets, to those who wander aimlessly but keep dreaming and that is the engine that helps them survive. It is also a tribute to the world of theater that constitutes the axis on which the film revolves.
